I won’t keep you in the dark any longer. Let’s just jump right into it!

What Is SEO?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

So what exactly is SEO?, an industry-leading resource for SEO pros, breaks it down perfectly:

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic (not paid or sponsored) search engine results.

We live in an era where information is readily available in the blink of an eye. I personally use Google for every suspicious symptom or random question I can conjure up in my brain. What Google (or any search engine) does is gather all of the information on the internet and create an index for it. When you type in your question, it will use that data to find phrases or keywords that best match your inquiry.

Have you ever noticed that when you type in a few words on Google, other related search queries pop up?

Here’s what popped up when I typed in the keywords “Earl Grey Tea”:

That’s the power of the search engine. Any link containing that phrase will turn up on the results page. Still, “Earl Grey Tea” is a broad term that doesn’t really describe my intention or what I’m looking for. What do I want to know about earl grey tea? To clearly define my search I can use “long-tail keywords” which combine several terms to get my point across. Here’s what happened when I searched “Earl Grey Tea Health Benefits”:

Combining those terms narrowed down the results and cut out any other information unrelated to my search. As a brand or business, you will need to clearly define your niche or target market to be successful. If your current content is too broad or general, how will your consumers find you amongst your peers? In an over-saturated industry, having a niche cuts down the competition. Once you identify your core audience and cater to their needs and interests, you’ll be able to turn them into lifetime buyers. Which brings me to my next point.

How to Use SEO to Grow Your Brand and Business

An SEO content writer can use keywords within your industry to increase your brand’s or business’s online visibility. Think of these keywords as a batman beacon shining back to your website or product. What is your client looking for? What do you offer? Your answer to those questions will be the key to bringing in more traffic.

For example, let’s say I own a financial podcast whose core audience is millennials, ages 22–36. What kind of financial advice or resources do they need? What are their problems or interests? Whatever it is, that’s the kind of content I should be providing.

SEO content writing services can transform you from an industry novice to a leading expert, as long as you have consistent, quality content. Sure, you offer products or services but anyone can do that. What separates you from your competition is the content that supports what you provide.

Back to the podcast example. One of the podcast episodes could be about building your credit. The episode alone is okay, but what if there was an article detailing and supporting the tips provided in the podcast? If the article has the right keywords, is well-researched, and engages your audience, you now have a marketing tool to drive people back to your website.

According to an article I found on

Each and every time you add new content to your website, Google robots take note…Adding fresh content to your website on a daily basis will work in your favor, as it will make you more visible.

Your goal should be to produce steady, engaging content catered to your brand’s mission and valuable to your audience. Your content doesn’t have to be limited to articles or blog posts, by the way. A freelance SEO writer can create monthly newsletters, press releases, or even instructional ebooks for your audience. The bottom line is all roads (traffic, listeners, sales, etc.) will lead back to you, a reputable expert in your industry.

Now let me tell you the benefits of not having to do this yourself.

Hiring an expert saves you time and energy. As a brand/business owner, you may not have time to learn the mechanics of SEO and how to implement it in your writing. Why not outsource this task?

A pro SEO writer already knows the basics, as well as the tools and resources needed to be effective. Not only that, but they can produce content at a faster rate than someone who is inexperienced. Can you really afford to focus your time and energy on learning a new industry on top of your daily brand/business needs? Outsourcing solves that problem.

A freelance SEO writer creates credible, well-researched content for you. The researching aspect of SEO can be intimidating but it is vital that consumers know you are the best at what you do. Let’s pretend you have an organic soap business and you want a blog post based on the phrase “benefits of organic soap”. Your freelancer would then look up other related keywords, research the benefits from the industry’s top websites, and cite their sources for the article. Now you have a post that is valuable to your target audience, a reputable source backing the story, AND a call to action to buy your products.

What more could you ask for?

Plus, if you like the work your writer produces, you can continue to outsource their services on a regular basis. Before you know it, that content will generate the visibility you need to bring in more business. An SEO writer can turn your site’s visitors into buyers, should you decide to hire one.
